Get Your House Ready For A Move Faster

Everyone hates moving day. Not only does it involve saying goodbye to the place you have called home, but it also means plenty of work. However, you can make that work go a little faster and feel like a lot less stressful by following these tips.

Don’t Cram The Day Before

Just like it is a bad idea to do all your studying for a test the night before, it is also a bad idea to try to get everything packed up and ready, on the day of your move. In fact, it’s a good idea to start the process farther back than a week from the move. The sooner you get ready for the big day, the easier the entire process will be.

Now obviously, you can’t pack up everything a week before it is time to leave your house. But you can certainly pack up all your items in storage. Go through the attic and basement and make sure that everything you won’t be using until after you move, is all ready to go. Then start on the non-essentials throughout your house. You might be surprised at how much you can get done well before moving day arrives.

When you are preparing to move, you should consider what things you really want to take with you. Almost everybody has a collection of items that they don’t really have any use for. You might be surprised at how much of your stuff you can do without.

If you find that you have a lot of items you don’t really need anymore, then you can give it to family members, toss them out or even hold a yard sale. If you go with the latter choice, you can make some money to help pay for the moving costs. Cleaning out some useless items is a great way to reduce your overall workload for the move. You can cut back on how much you have to load up as well, saving you space in the truck.

It is better to identify these items before you move, as you save yourself a lot of time unpacking them and finding a new spot in the new house when you really could do without them. These items could include anything, from outdated tech items to clothes that don’t fit anymore to toys and books that are no longer age appropriate for your kids.

Plan Ahead

A lot of people waste tons of time on moving day because they did not plan properly. You want to make sure everything is in order for the big day, and you want to do your planning as far in advance as you can.
That means calling up people who may be able to help you move and confirming they can still help you. They may forget if you don’t keep reminding them.

You also want to have enough boxes on hand to pack up everything. You don’t want to be running around at the last minute trying to find proper packing materials.
